Clogged arteries, or medically known as atherosclerosis, are conditions where there is a narrowing of the arteries, which eventually leads to blocking of blood flow. The main cause of clogged arteries is widely known to be the deposition of excess cholesterol and fats in the body. Some possible dangers of blocked arteries include coronary heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure and kidney failure, depending on which artery is blocked. These are conditions that may be considered fatal, however, there are still natural ways to unclog the arteries and prevent these conditions.
1. Avoid Hydrogenated Oils
Hydrogenated oils are considered poison to the human body and they SHOULD be avoided. These oils are the top causes of heart diseases and neurological disorders around the world, especially in the US since these causes heart disease more quickly than normal. Hydrogenated oils are dangerous because they are never naturally made – these are processed, and are commonly found in a lot of products. Without proper knowledge, consuming hydrogenated oils is unavoidable. However, too much consumption can lead to widespread cardiovascular diseases.
2. Start An Exercise Regimen
Starting an exercise regimen and doing yoga are two good ways to unclog the arteries. It develops the immune system and promotes proper circulation of the blood. Yoga also makes the arteries flexible and cleans the plaques in the arteries’ walls. However, it cannot be achieved overnight, but must be done regularly. A study published in the Circulation: Journal American Heart Association indicated that blood vessels of those older athletes function like those of people half their age, thus helping avoid clogging of the arteries because of long-term exercises.
3. Get Garlic
Cleaning of the arteries naturally can be best done with garlic. 1 to 4 cloves a day is good. You can take either raw garlic or a garlic supplement – my recommended brand is Kyolic. One advantage of garlic is that you could include into almost all of your dishes. It has a long-history of treating various kinds of heart diseases and blood clots since it lowers cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
4. Spectacular Swiss Chard
The Swiss chard is a leafy-green vegetable that is a good source for Vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps prevent free radicals from oxidizing cholesterol. It also prevents atherosclerosis for it helps in cleaning the arteries from the build-up of plaques.
5. Increase Your Healthy Fat Intake
Fats have recently gained a bad reputation since they are one of the most common causes of clogged arteries if consumed too much. This may be true, but it only includes excessive amounts of unhealthy saturated fats. Increasing your healthy fat intake can reduce the risk of developing clogged arteries. The types of good fats that must be taken are the unsaturated fats like omega-3 fatty acids that have numerous benefits, including prevention of blood clot.
6. Consume Cruciferous Veggies
Imperial College London researchers have found out that Nrf2 or normally-protective protein are inactive in the arteries that are prone to disease but a chemical called sulforaphane found in “brassicas” or cruciferous vegetables can activate Nrf2 in these disease-prone areas. Examples of brassicas include broccoli, brussel sprouts, kale, cauliflower, cabbage, rocket and bok choy. Professor Peter Weissberg, the medical director at BHF stated that these findings present possible ways of protection against heart disease through prevention of atherosclerosis. The result of the study was published in the Journal Arteriosclerosis Thrombosis and Vascular Biology.
7. Eat Oatmeal
Oat meals are widely known to be heart-healthy and provide many benefits for the heart since it reduces cholesterol levels. However, another reason to consume oat meals is that it also helps prevent the arteries from being clogged, according to the results of a new research published in Free Radical Biology & Medicine.
A group of researchers from Tufts University examined the effects of an oat compound called avenanthramides on the health of the arteries. It was shown that this compound decreases inflammatory molecules that would lead to chronic inflammation and would eventually become a cause for arteries to harden and clog.
8. Take Vitamin E
Vitamin E is known to promote heart health by keeping the LDL or bad cholesterol from oxidizing, which can mark the beginning of clogged arteries. It also keeps the blood thin so as to prevent it from clumping together. A result of the study presented by Ishwarlal Jiala, MD, PhD, of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center says that vitamin E prevents white blood cells from building into plaques. It also functions as an anti-inflammatory agent, reducing the risk of heart disease by protecting the artery walls from injury. It affects the way the blood is circulated within the body, thereby preventing damages and blockages in the artery.
9. Use Apple Cider Vinegar
Research has shown that apple cider vinegar (ACV) is a good source for potassium. ACV has benefited many senile people experiencing clogged arteries. Studies have proven that the quality of lives of the senile elderly can be restored once toxic poisons are flushed out of their bodies. The potassium in ACV cleans out these clogged arteries from plaques, the same way water and vinegar cleans dirt from windows. Not only this, apple cider vinegar is also known to lower cholesterol levels and blood sugar, factors that may lead to heart diseases.
10. Lovely Lecithin
Lecithin is a complex substance found in vegetable oils, egg yolks and soybeans. A 1989 article cited in the CBS’ MoneyWatch.com says that atherosclerosis can be avoided as long as the amount of lecithin in the blood is sufficient. Lecithin can cause water and fats to mix, something that it does not usually do, since lecithin is a well-known emulsifier. An emulsified fat will less likely deposit on an artery wall and more likely to transfer to an area where it can be metabolized. This is how lecithin breaks up cholesterol so as not to cause atherosclerosis.
11. Cayenne is Crucial
Cayenne, or cayenne pepper is known to be one of the greatest healing herbs available. One important function of cayenne pepper is that it moves the blood. The body is incapable of processing all the substances we take in, so many of it are passed down as waste materials. Having blocked or clogged arteries can also be managed by cayenne pepper. It helps flush down these blockages since it helps break up mucus, clears arteries and increases blood flow.
