HF: You’ve spent five years visiting and photographing life inside over 30 legal brothels in Nevada to create your provocative book of photos. Your images of prostitutes wearing sex costumes reveal a seduction technique that any woman can use to rev up the sexual heat with her partner. What were other alluring things you observed women do to seduce a man?
Marc McAndrews: The most striking thing I noticed was flirtation. Even though it wasn’t expected when you’re hired to have sex, the seduction process usually began with a simple touch, with a long look into each others eyes, with a smile, with playful banter. These are things every couple can do to spark up the sexual fire, no matter how long lasting your relationship.
HF: Your first chapter was titled, Among The Last Honest Places In America. What makes brothels an honest place?
Marc McAndrews: There is no pretense. Everyone knows why you’re in the brothel, and no one judges you for it. After a man chooses a woman, they go into the negotiation room where he explains the sexual services he wants. Some experiences, sex toys or sexual kinks cost more than the normal lay.
Once they agree on the price, the woman checks him for any visible signs of venereal disease. By Nevada law, she gets tested every week, to make sure she’s clean. So if he looks clean, the seduction process begins, possibly with a little role playing. Then the woman gives him the sexual service he’s hired her to perform. Condom use is mandatory by law 100 percent of the time.
HF: So you’re saying sex is an honest business deal in a legal brothel.
Marc McAndrews: And the women are independent contractors who decide to raise or lower the price for servicing each customer. The minimum price at The Bunny Ranch Brothel is $150 for 15 or 20 minutes. I’ve seen men pay $10,000 or more for a weekend party with a woman. She always decides the price, not the brothel.
HF: How can you use the brothel seduction process to turn up the sexual heat with your partner?
You can keep things fresh and exciting when you change how you dress for sex and connect to your partner with all of your senses, including a playful sense of humor.
You can create a safe negotiation room, where you and your mate talk about the sexual experiences you want to share. Once you both agree, you go fulfill these fantasies together. Then you come up with new ideas to stoke the sexual fire in your relationship.
